These Are the Best Trail Cameras to Keep Tabs on Wildlife 👀

We would all love to spend every day enjoying the outdoors, but life has a way of calling us back into the office more often than we might like. Fortunately, there’s a way to keep tabs on our animal neighbors even when we can’t see them in person—wildlife cameras.

Trail cameras act as a second set of eyes that never sleep and never blink. When used wisely, they can help you understand wildlife movement and behavior on a level you might otherwise never achieve.

Even if you’re not studiously analyzing animal behavior, trail cameras can still be a fun and educational tool. What left those tracks in your yard? Who keeps sneaking treats from your garden? Having a silent eye monitoring your property is one way to find out.

Here are some of the best trail cameras to watch wildlife. Let’s dig into the details and figure out which is the best trail camera for you.

Hotels We Love: The Merchant

Ahoy, travelers! Please allow us to introduce you to The Merchant.

This charming hotel nods to the New England seafaring lifestyle. Located in Salem, MA, The Merchant was originally commissioned long ago by a post-Revolutionary War sea merchant and privateer.

Over the centuries, as this historic building has evolved into a boutique hotel, it has gone through some very modern upgrades—USB outlets, heated bathroom floors, and gas fireplaces, to name a few. The result is a luxurious stay with loads of character. After you spend the day taking in the stunning outdoor adventures in the area, you can settle into this welcoming, stunning hotel, and imagine yourself living like they did in the 1700s (without any of the downsides).

Book early and opt for the George Washington King Deluxe room, and know you’re staying in a room steeped in history (yes, he slept there!).

‘Ambushed’: Mountain Lion Stalks Hiker and His Mom in Northern Californiae

A hiker in northern California says a mountain lion stalked him and his mother after the animal “ambushed” them on a trail in Sonoma County. That’s just north of the San Francisco metro area. On Instagram, the hiker who goes by Wild Wild Rocks described a chaotic scene when he turned and locked eyes with a cougar.

“I heard a twig snap. As I turned my head, a full-grown cougar was lunging out of the brush towards us. I didn’t really have time to think. It was fight, flight, or freeze,” he wrote in his post. “It all happened so fast, but I reacted without haste. Arms up, primal yell and quickly advanced towards the cat. One more step by either of us, and I was in for some battle wounds. Maybe fatal ones.”

Take a look at the clip, which the hiker recorded just moments after the initial interaction:
