Dramatic Rescue in California Flood
Plus: Is Oklahoma the Worst State for the Outdoors? Let's jump in
The worst of the stormy weather is making its way from Southern California after heavy rain brought flooding to the Los Angeles area over the last few days. Dry riverbeds and creeks turned into raging rivers after as much as 8 inches of rain fell within the city. As a result, emergency crews stayed busy, and there were multiple rescues, including a man swept away by a river.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department led many of those rescues, including a call where witnesses say a man jumped into fast-flowing water to rescue his dog. The daring rescue was captured on camera and shared by the fire department.

Here’s a positive story for wildlife conservationists: officials released two young bears back into the wild. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, rangers captured two abandoned bears this past summer. After some care and rehabilitation, wildlife officials released the bears back into the wild this past Friday.
Wildlife officials say they discovered the two animals separately. One cub came from the Colorado Springs area. It was one of four cubs, and officials believe the mother bear simply couldn’t care for all four of the young. Eventually, the bear abandoned the cub. Similarly, the other cub was found alone in the Rifle State Fish Hatchery.
Not every state can have endless trails, mountain peaks, surfable waves, or even easy access to the wilderness. Sometimes, these states lacking an outdoor culture are highlighted in a list like this one titled “Worst States for Outdoor Lovers.” Unfortunately for Oklahoma, it’s usually included in articles as not a great place for outdoor fans.
However, the state that may be best known for tornados and the song that uses its namesake has more ways to explore the great outdoors than you may think.
