Siberian Tiger Cubs Born!

Plus: Rare Photos of Blue Whale Calfs

Good Morning 🍃This week’s saltwater and wildlife news brings rare moments and surprises. A fisherman is in critical condition after hooking a shark. Rare photos capture a pygmy blue whale calf. Two rare Amur tiger cubs are born at a U.S. zoo. A diver catches a 'soft shell' lobster, as soft as raw chicken. A viral video claims piranhas will eat humans, but experts disagree. Dive into these stories!

The Amur tiger (or Siberian tiger) is the largest subspecies of tiger on Planet Earth. Sadly, Amur tigers are also endangered, with fewer than 500 of these animals left in the wild. Two Amur tiger cubs born at the Minnesota Zoo is good news for a species that is dwindling. The rare cubs are adorable, and their birth is raising awareness about conservation issues affecting tigers in the wild.

A pilot spotted a newborn pygmy blue whale calf swimming with its mother and captured some beautiful photographs that have the scientific community (and animal lovers) excited. The pilot, Tiffany Klein of Ningaloo Aviation, was searching for this species as part of a research project to tag and track pygmy blue whales. The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and the Centre for Whale Research (CWR) are heading up the research project.

What's going on in Florida this year? Shark attacks, or at least stories about them, feel more prevalent than ever. And it's not even Shark Week! Maybe, Jaws was right about staying out of the water. Of course, this fisherman wasn't actually in the water. Okay, so he was in a boat in the water, but semantics! This fisherman got a little more than he bargained for when he ended up hooking a shark on his fishing expedition.

"There's only one lobster here," said Charlie Nutting, a diver and photographer, about the items on the plate in front of him. At first, it looked like two lobsters, but he explained that one was a lobster and the other was the lobster's shell.

You know how if you throw pop rocks into some cola, it starts to fizzle? Well, it turns out that you get the same effect if you throw a severed cow's head into a river with piranhas.
