Sonya the Bear's Pond Paradise

Plus: The Health Benefits of Hammock's

Good Morning 🍃 This week’s animal stories are sure to delight. A rescued bear named Sonya floats carefree in a pond, while a British man claims hammock camping for 14 years improved his health. A kayaker hilariously untangles two fighting ospreys, and a Good Samaritan saves a choking raccoon with a modified Heimlich maneuver. Lastly, a couple near Detroit spots a rare all-white deer grazing near a parking lot. Dive into these heartwarming tales!

Sometimes, a bear just needs a relaxing float in a pond on a summer day. A rescued bear named Sonya knows how to do it right, based on a recent YouTube video from the Orphaned Wildlife Center. The nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation center in Otisville, New York said: “Notice how [Sonya] effortlessly floats with her toes adorably protruding. Truly delightful to behold.”

There are many benefits of hammock camping, but one British man has taken the idea to the extreme by hammock camping in his own backyard for about 14 years. He says sleeping indoors is “overrated” and suggests humans have become “indoctrinated” to it when they really should be sleeping outdoors.

Chris Miles (@miles_away_fishing) was in his fishing kayak when he spotted two ospreys in the water, locked together by the talons. Miles says the birds had locked talons in the air during a fight and “death spiraled” into the bay. Whoops.

Someone give Bill Boski an award. In a viral video taken by a friend, Boski saves a choking raccoon’s life by patting it on the back with just the right amount of force. Watching Boski give a modified Heimlich maneuver to a raccoon is entertaining, but listening to his celebration after the animal coughs up whatever it was choking on is possibly the best part.

Zoe Ridley and Jarod Harris caught a glimpse of a rare all-white deer earlier this week outside of Detroit, Michigan. The beautiful, possibly albino deer was grazing on some grass near a parking lot, reports local news radio station WWJ 950.
